About the only way you CAN'T get to Flynn's Cove is by road. . . . ok, the train doesn't go by either.

Flynn's Cove is on Vancouver Island, north of Nanaimo where the ferries from Vancouver dock. Take the highway north to Campbell River then decide where you're going to get on the water. If it's Gold River or Tahsis, take the turn to Gold River; if you're coming through Zeballos, continue past Campbell River along the coast. The Zeballos turnoff is 22 km north of Woss, or about an hour and a half driving time from Campbell River. For some colourful directions to Zeballos, try this link

Launching/Flying from Gold River: Drive west 56 km through Strathcona Park to Gold River. You must then follow the signs to the boat launch (about 12-15 km longer). (village@goldriver.ca) Then, by boat you run north up Tahsis Inlet, West out Esperanza Inlet until you see Center Island. Flynn’s Cove is directly south of Center Island and can be seen on the chart between Center Island (N) and Owassitsa Lake (S). Going to the West of Eagle Island (directly in front of the cove) is usually the safest route for your first time. A buoy marks the one rock you need to be aware of. Gold River's web site address is http://www.goldriver.ca. For charter information, contact http://www.airnootka.com.

Launching at Tahsis: Drive to Gold River (as above) and then you have a 64 km gravel road to Tahsis. This road has been maintained very well in the last few years and there are a growing number of paved sections, although it does have some mountainous areas. Tahsis boat launch is fairly shallow and is subject to winds so the best plan is to launch as early in the morning as possible. The Village has pay parking for both vehicles and trailers. Westview Marina (www.westviewmarina.com) provides fuel and fishing licenses as well as other items. You must drive to the small grocery outlet in town. Additional information can be found on the Tahsis website: www.villageoftahsis.com

Launching at Zeballos: From Campbell River you must travel north towards Pt. Hardy/Pt. McNeill and take the Zeballos turn off. This turn off is about 15 minutes past Woss and you need to keep your eye out for it. Then you have 42 km of gravel to Zeballos. Zeballos also has fuel, a fairly good launch, a pay parking lot and a grocery store right near the fuel dock. The Grocery store supplies fishing licenses. For further information you could email: (Zeballos@zeballos.net)

Note: Both the Tahsis and Zeballos route save you water time (they are within 10 minutes difference to the cove) while the Gold River route is longer but saves you from traveling on a gravel road.  Please feel free to contact us if you have further questions.

Flying:   Charter flights can be booked directly from the Vancouver Airport or downtown Vancouver but we're not that well known yet. If calling for a quote, Flynn’s Cove is located at: 49° 49.9’ North and 126°  55.8’ West and has a dock suitable for float planes. We ‘stand by’ on the local marine VHF Channel 6 as "Flynn’s Cove".

One popular flight is using Air Nootka out of Gold River. You can drive on paved road to Gold River and take the floatplane from their dock. Please check with: http://www.airnootka.com for pricing and scheduling.

MV Uchuck

The Uchuck is a supply boat that has been serving this coast for many years. They make a regular run up to Kyuquot on Thursdays and back on Fridays going right past Flynn’s Cove on the way. This is a journey of approximately 5 – 7 hours. One fun option may be to take the Uchuck here and fly back (or vise versa). (www.mvuchuck.com)

Kayaking

Kayakers usually drive up to Zeballos and launch in Espinosa Inlet. Flynn’s Cove is a direct paddle south (around the tip of Center Island). Others hire a water taxi from either Tahsis or Zeballos and use Flynn’s Cove as a starting/stopping point.

We have a first class dock that can handle boats up to ? feet and with no pilings, float planes love it here.
